1. Chino Hills (22-0 / No. 1) Observation: The Huskies overcame a poor shooting performance from Lonzo Ball to beat No. 2 Bishop Montgomery at the Fairfax State Preview. Junior small forward Elizjah Scott and freshman center Onyeka Okongwu came up big for Chino Hills in the win. Next up: Two Baseline League games before taking on Las Vegas Bishop Gorman Saturday at the Nike Extravaganza. 2. Torrance Bishop Montgomery (21-1 / No. 2) Observation: The Knights played No. 1 Chino Hills down to the wire. Better clock management and shot selection down the stretch might have been the difference between a win and a loss. Sophomore David Singleton had 22 points and juniors Jordan Schakel and Ethan Thompson, 19 and 17, respectively. Next up: Bishop Montgomery hosts St. Bernard Wednesday in a Del Rey League game. 3. Chatsworth Sierra Canyon (19-3 / No. 3) Observation: The Trailblazers handily beat Pasadena Maranatha at the Fairfax State Preview without two starters in Remy Martin and Adam Seiko. Next up: Sierra Canyon hosts Viewpoint Tuesday in a Gold Coast League game. 4. El Cajon Foothills Christian (16-3 / No. 4) Observation: The Knights continue to feast upon San Diego Section competition. Next up: Foothills has a Coastal League game against Santa Fe Christian before heading up the 5 Freeway to take on Santa Ana Mater Dei at the Nike Extravaganza Saturday. 5. Santa Ana Mater Dei (19-3 / No. 5) Observation: The Monarchs continue to roll along in Trinity League play. Next up: Mater Dei is at Santa Margarita Wednesday, then host Phoenix (AZ) Shadow Mountain in a Friday night Nike Extravaganza match-up, followed by the showdown with No. 4 Foothills Christian Saturday. 6. La Verne Damien (21-2 / No. 8) Observation: The Spartans’ two losses this season were to No. 1 Chino Hills and a one-point decision against a 20-3 La Canada team. Next up: Damien has Upland and Etiwanda this week. 7. Redondo Union (17-4 / No. 6) Observation: The Sea Hawks drop one spot after falling to a good Inglewood team at home. Next up: Redondo is on the road at Inglewood Morningside Tuesday. 8. Encino Crespi (21-2 / No. 7) Observation: Harvard-Westlake ended the Celts’ 21-game winning streak last Wednesday. Next up: Crespi hosts L.A. Loyola Wednesday and is at West Hills Chaminade Friday. 9. Corona Centennial (16-6 / No. 9) Observation: The Huskies have won five straight since a Jan. 15 loss to Eastvale Roosevelt. They’ll have the opportunity to avenge that defeat Tuesday night. Next up: An important Big VIII League rematch with Eastvale Roosevelt. 10. Santa Monica (20-2 / No. 10) Observation: The Vikings beat Gardena Serra, 73-60, at the Fairfax State Preview. Next up: SaMo is at Lawndale Wednesday. 11. Chino Hills Ayala (20-2 / No. 11) Observation: The Bulldogs dominated La Verne Bonita and Diamond Bar last week. Next up: Ayala hosts Claremont Wednesday, are at Glendora Friday and play Anaheim Servite Saturday at the Nike Extravaganza. 12. Los Angeles Westchester (19-5 / No. 12) Observation: The Comets rolled Palisades and L.A. Hamilton last week. Next up: Westchester is at LACES, then at L.A. University before taking on No. 16 Orange Lutheran at the Nike Extravaganza Saturday. 13. Los Angeles Fairfax (22-3 / No. 13) Observation: The Lions crushed L.A. Windward at the Fairfax State Preview Next up: Fairfax is at L.A. University in a Western League game Wednesday before playing No. 15 Los Alamitos Saturday at the Nike Extravaganza. 14.
