5th Annual Take Flight Challenge begins Friday

The fifth annual Take Flight Challenge, put together by Reggie Morris, Jr. and his great staff over at Culver City High, tips off Friday night and features 12 games through two days with plenty of marquee match-ups at Cerritos College.

Friday’s headliner is the 8:30 tilt between defending state Open Division champion Bishop Montgomery and the new-look Sierra Canyon squad looking to make a run at the Knights’ crown.

The Trailblazers feature Ohio State-bound guard Duane Washington, Jr. along with super juniors Cassius Stanley, Scotty Pippen, Jr. and K.J. Martin and stud sophomore Terren Frank.

Bishop Montgomery will be without UCLA-signee David Singleton (nose injury) and Gianni Hunt (ankle/foot), but coach Doug Mitchell and the Knights’ stout team defense led by Boston-bound forward Fletcher Tynen and juniors Will Crawford and Josh Vazquez should be ready regardless of who is on the floor.

Sierra Canyon takes center stage again Saturday at 8:30 against Lakewood Mayfair, led by highly-recruited sophomore shooting guard Josh Christopher and his older brother Caleb. This will be one of the biggest challenges in the young career of Josh Christopher and he’s shown he’s never one to back down from a test.
